Welcome to St. James Garlickhythe

We are a church in the heart of The City of London, disciples of Jesus Christ, offering worship to God, and serving the people who live and work here. This website gives details of who we are and what we do, and tells the story of our beautiful 17th century church, known as Wren's Lantern, which stands on a site where Christian worship has been offered since Saxon times.

Please come and join us!

If you work or live in the parish, and are interested in worshipping with us, arranging a baptism or marriage, please come along to a service or get in touch.

St James is committed to the safety of young people and vulnerable adults. You can view our Safeguarding policy here.

Church opening time and services

All the liturgies at St James are drawn from the Book of Common Prayer.  The Eucharist at St Michael's is celebrated according to Common Worship.

Evening Prayer is at 5.15pm

Both these services use the Sarum plainsong chants and office hymns from the St Stephen's House Office Book

The Litany is sung or said after Morning Prayer on Wednesday's

Holy Eucharist: see below for this week's services

The Angelus is recited, and the bell rung, three times a day as a reminder of the Incarnation of Our Lord Jesus Christ: at 9am, 12 noon, and 6pm

The Sacrament of Reconciliation is available whenever the church is open, or by contacting Fr Tim
